According to the National Council on Aging, elder abuse is a silent problem. It can rob senior citizens of their dignity and security and in some cases their lives. NCOA states that up to 5 million older Americans are abused every year. NCOA also estimates the victims of financial abuse is estimated at around $36.5 billion. Senior citizens with the inability to protect themselves are vulnerable to many different types of abuses and sometimes don’t have the ability to report the abuse themselves.
